By changing our breathing we can change how we feel. Our worries and anxieties cause us to increase our breathing rate, breathe shallowly or hold our breath. This in turn increases our anxiety. Try stopping your thoughts for a few moments and focus your mind on your breath. Breathe slowly in and out fully. Try to do this for a few minutes. Relax your shoulders as you breathe. This reduces anxiety, tension and feelings of overwhelm, and enables you to feel calm and back in control. Your thinking becomes clearer and more rational and this helps change your perspective. Try doing this regularly through the day, wherever you are and whatever you are doing. We all feel happier when we feel in control of feelings and emotions.
